Medical debt letters
Collectors buy unpaid medical bills for cheap, then chase people. A charity can buy the same paper and wipe it. The person gets a letter instead of a call. Groups like Undue Medical Debt already do this. If anyone wants the pack to look at it, they can write for it.

This medical bill has been paid. You do not owe this balance. No collector is coming for this account. Someone chose to help. You can keep the letter.

The paper gets sold
Unpaid medical bills are bundled and sold cheap. Collectors buy them to chase people.

Someone else can buy it
Groups like Undue Medical Debt buy the same kind of paper to abolish it, not collect it.

The letter goes out
The person hears from a helper, not a collector. This bill is paid. No remaining balance on that account.

The pack writes it down
If we do this, we say which org, what it cost us, and what face value got wiped. No mystery.
Please know
- We are not a registered charity. We would not buy debt ourselves.
- Buying medical debt is specialized work. If the pack picks this, we work with a group that already does it.
- A letter is the point. The person should see it. We should be able to describe the work without guessing.
